Part 108 Timeline
2021
FAA establishes the UAS BVLOS Aviation Rulemaking Committee (ARC) to develop recommendations for a scalable BVLOS regulatory framework.
March 2022
The BVLOS ARC submits its final report to the FAA.
2024
Congress passes the FAA Reauthorization Act of 2024, directing development of a BVLOS rule.
June 2025
Executive Order 14307 directs development of a framework for routine BVLOS operations.
August 7, 2025
FAA and TSA publish the Part 108 BVLOS NPRM.
October 6, 2025
Original comment period closes.
January 2026
FAA reopens comments on selected issues, including electronic conspicuity and right-of-way.
July 2026
FAA moves the rulemaking into the Final Rule Stage.
September 2026
FAA regulatory-review records show meetings concerning the Part 108 final rule continuing through September 22.
